Chapter 57: Schooling completed

Meanwhile, Rama & Co time in ashram has come to an end. And everyone at ashram is sad to see them go.

It is ‘Gurupournima Day’. Ravana asks his mom (guru) what she wants. She wants him to be Viswa Vijay - champion of all worlds, but she also never wants anything asked from him next year onwards because Gurupournima is a concept of hermits (Ravana's father was a hermit) and hence she doesnt want him to follow any such thing thats followed by hermits and mankind.

Many gifts from Rama’s pop to Guru which he rejects. Guru Vashisht refuses Dasharath's gifts on behalf of Ram, he wants from Ram himself. He doesnt want wealth from Dasharath. He informs -
If King amasses wealth, subjects will become poor.
If Minister amasses wealth, it leads to corruption.
If teacher amasses wealth, there will be no knowledge imparted.

Guru tests Rama and asks what are the ideals and principles to which Rama answers -
1. Satya – the truth always
2. Walk on the path of religion/dharma/discipline/code of conduct
3. Self-introspection/focus and responsibilities
4. Follow the right direction & goal & objectives.

Guru asks Rama to follow them all in life and that will be his Gurudakshina. Rama promises. Guru accepts.

Guru is much pleased. He and his wife are sad to see him go, but go he must. The other 3 bros are just followers of Rama. KK is much pleased about the return of Rama but Manthara is not.

Rama and bros ask Guru's wife for one gift - the clothes. Why, she asks. They reply that it will be to remember them of the good ole days. Wife says its ok but hopes they will never wear it again but if they do, it should act as shield.

On the way back to palace, Ram is tensed and not happy. Guru asks why - to which he replies that Ram is wondering if he will find the peace and serenity of the hermitage in the palace and the chant of the Lord's name. Sure, guru replies but he needs to walk the path of truth always.
